At Giftphoria, we have been preparing condolence gift baskets for several years.
However, our experience with them did not begin in Slovakia, but in the United Kingdom, where we started creating the first of them during the difficult period of the pandemic.
In a country where it is common to give the bereaved a decent gift box instead of a bouquet or wreath, not as a "celebration" but as a gesture of belonging, we understood the power a quiet, carefully prepared gesture can have.

Our condolence baskets are delicate, discreet, tied with a dark blue ribbon, contain lavender from our own Lavandulia farm, and especially a card with a message from you.
It is those references that often move us too.
They are written from the heart. Some are so powerful that time stops for them.
And sometimes tears flow.
Who are these baskets for?
People choose them for various reasons:
- when they cannot attend the funeral in person,
- when they live abroad and want to send at least symbolic comfort to their loved ones,
- when a company wants to express sympathy to colleagues or partners in difficult times.
These are customers who believe that even a small act can have a big impact. And who know that the wreath may disappear from the grave after a while, but the gift basket – and especially what it came to express – remains in the memory much longer.
Slovakia and sensitive changes in traditions
We admit, this topic is still a sensitive one in Slovakia.
Some people ask us if it's even appropriate to give something like that. Whether it's too much. Or not enough.
We also encounter misunderstanding. Sometimes even raised eyebrows.
But at the same time, we see that more and more people feel the same way we do.
That grief deserves respect. Silence. And sometimes the scent of lavender.
Why do we do this?
Because we believe that even in the most difficult moments, we can be a little light to someone.
Not to sell something, but because someone on the other side needs to feel that we are thinking of them.
And that's when our baskets come in handy.
Not as a solution to pain, but as a reminder of human closeness.
